Menopause
Perimenopause is the beginning of changes in a woman’s body due to a decrease in hormones. It generally starts in the late forties, but can range from the early 30s to late 50s. During perimenopause, a woman begins to have irregular (shorter or longer) cycles with a decrease in menstrual flow. Women may also begin to experience hot flashes and or night sweats due to the decrease in hormones, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Menopause officially begins after a woman has not had a period for 12 consecutive months. The major symptoms that can occur at this time include hot flashes/night sweats, vaginal dryness, decreased sexual desire, and insomnia. Other symptoms are mood swings, fuzzy thinking, decreased memory, weight changes, lack of energy, and urinary problems. Two very serious medical conditions that can also develop and be less obvious to detect are osteoporosis and heart disease. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in postmenopausal women, surpassing breast and lung cancer.
At Abbotts we offer bio-identical hormone replacement therapy that can help relieve the symptoms of menopause and balance your hormones. We provide individualized formulas such as transdermal gels (absorbed through the skin) that can be easily increased or decreased to help meet your body’s requirements.
Our pharmacists are available for patient consultations. During the consultation, the pharmacist will evaluate your current symptoms, hormone levels (based on saliva and blood tests), and past medical/hormonal history (based on a questionnaire). The pharmacist will provide you with information about the benefits and risks of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Based on the consultation information, we will make recommendations to your healthcare provider. The pharmacist will be available to help guide patients through the transition to proper hormone levels.
Your body may be changing, but it doesn’t mean your life has to. At Abbotts we can help restore your natural hormonal balance, thereby optimizing your health and sexuality.

Andropause
Men also experience a decline in hormone levels, particularly testosterone, usually starting after the age of 30. This stage of life is known as andropause, or male menopause. Andropause is a more gradual process than the female menopause, and therefore symptoms may be more difficult to recognize. However, by the age of 50 to 55, after a significant decline in hormone levels, men may begin to experience decreased sexual desire, problems with erections, mood changes, decreased muscle mass/strength, and increased body fat. Also, the decreased hormone levels can lead to osteoporosis, and may increase the risk of heart disease.
Men have an option to help alleviate their symptoms and reduce the risks associated with andropause: bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Hormone replacement therapy can improve mood and sense of well being, increase energy and libido, increase lean body mass and muscle strength, maintain bone density, and decrease the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. Abbotts Compounding Pharmacy, Inc. offers bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, individually customized to meet your unique needs. Our goal is to provide you with the safest, most natural hormone replacement therapy. We offer patient consultations during which we evaluate your current symptoms, hormone levels (based on saliva and blood tests), and past medical/hormonal history (based on a questionnaire) in order to recommend the proper hormone therapy for you.
